As I began teaching Revelation several months ago, my initial hope was to include some of the teaching from other prophecies in the Bible regarding End Times, such as those in Isaiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Joel, Matthew, I and II Thessalonians, II Peter, etc... As you can see, End Times prophecy is very widely spoken of in the Bible. Obviously God did not intend for us to be ignorant of His plans for His people and His creation. However, my slow pace of teaching Revelation on Sunday mornings prohibits me from including very many of these other passages in any real expositional detail. So, one of my goals with this blog is to put some of this additional teaching in these blog posts.
I will also try to keep up with putting my Revelation notes on here as well - especially for those of you who are out of town at school. But, just because my notes are on this blog, that is no excuse for skipping Sunday Morning Bible Study if you are in town. I really look forward to seeing each of you.
Many of you know my style of teaching - I welcome and encourage comments and questions. If I can't answer a question, I will do my best to find an answer for you. If I disagree with a comment I will let you know why. There may be some things on which we may just have to agree to disagree. I am a "literalist" most of the time, but will certainly point out symbolism when that is the obvious meaning of a passage. If you would like more in-depth study of a particular passage or theological theme, just let me know and we will spend a little more time on it, or we can continue to discuss it off line if you would like.
I will typically teach from the New American Standard Bible (NASB), but also think the New King James Version (NKJV) is an excellent study version as well. I don't personally find the New International Version (NIV) to be a study version that I like, but you may have an NIV Bible and really like it, and that's great. The only Bibles I would recommend that you not use for study are paraphrase's such as The Message or The Living Bible. I would however, highly recommend the John MacArthur Study Bible, in either NKJV or NASB. It has a lot of very helpful notes.
Ok. That takes care of my introduction. Please pardon any spelling errors - I'm sure it is the computer's fault. I look forard to seeing you on Sunday mornings and talking to you on line. Encourage your friends to take a look here too. You just never know how God may speak to a person. May God bless our study of His word together.
One last thing, if you want to post a comment or question, please send me an email and I will add your name to the blogger list. bholschen@gmail.com
